CIS 2041 : Computer Graphic Design |
Critique: Tuesday, Feb 17
For this first project using the Adobe Photoshop software, we want you to combine two or more photographs and manipulate parts of the new combined image. There should be a reason for not only the placement of the images, but the manipulations you select. You must justify your actions from an artistic perspective.
You can combine and manipulate through several means, but we want you to experiment with the new manipulative techniques you've learned thus far. Some of your options include (but are not limited to):
1.Manipulate the original photo using tools from Photoshop (paint, smudge, etc.) to somehow alter the image.
2.Layer a texture or pattern from one photo onto the original photo, blending and texturing the pattern to effectively create a new image.
3.Cut and Paste a pattern from one photo onto the original photo to create a repetitive textured layer.
We discourage you from taking one photograph, clicking on "filters" once, and handing that in as Project One. These projects will receive few points for aesthetics.
We also want you to think beyond the mere cutting and pasting of photos, the purely mechanical process of photo manipulation. Keep aesthetic and compositional concerns in mind as well. For example, in this first assignment, consider the following ideas for the second layer:
Remember that the images you use must be your own. This first project will be handed in electronically (saved to your class folder on the R: drive). Please turn in the original photos during the critique. We would also like a brief commentary from you explaining and justifying your selections/manipulations. These should be turned in together and stapled, paper-clipped, or somehow otherwise joined together!
Create. Think. Enjoy.
