Assignment 2 : Scanning
Due: Thursday, Jan 29
Task: You must scan in a single image three times (each time at a different resolution) and then analyze the on screen and printed out images. Here are the details:
- Start with a crisp image (your own photo or magazine picture). The original image must be at least 3"x5". The image should be in focus and contain some fine details.
- Use one of the scanners on campus to scan a 3"x5" portion of your original image at three different resolutions (75 dpi, 150 dpi, and 300 dpi).
- Resize the image to 6"x10" while keeping the resolution the same. Use the Image --> Image Size menu for this.
- Look at some details on each scan in Photoshop, zooming in to see the detail clearly. What details appear or are lost in each scan?
- Print out all three scans using the B/W laser printers on campus (you may also use your own printer if you want).
- On each printout write the scan's resolution and also the file size of the image. You can use the size displayed in Photoshop at the bottom of the screen or the actual file size displayed in Windows Explorer.
