ONE STEP AT A TIME!
There can be no professionalization of exercise physiology without an exercise physiology organization, and no organization without exercise physiologists' interdependence. Just as science comes before physiology, we should remember that effective interdependence can only exists on a foundation of true independence.
As we look back and think about where we've been and now where we are in relationship to where we're going, we could have gotten where we are in a much shorter time had we invested independently (and collectively) in our future as exercise physiologists.
I believe it was Oliver Wendell Holmes who said, "What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us." It is here that we find ONE important way of putting ourselves in control of exercise physiology. We can make a promise to support the new ASEP President, Dr. Robert A. Robergs, and keep it! Within each of us lies the opportunity to establish a responsible control of our profession.
The power lies within us to make things happen.
