Systems theory refers
to a collection
of theories that attempt to describe how complex events are connected.
For leaders, the ability to see and understand patterns, trends, and
long
term relationships is a crucial skill. Some of these concepts are
challenging
to grasp, but stay with it--systems theory may change the way you think
about leadership!
Increasingly, leaders
are emerging
at all levels of the organization, not just the top. Unlike traditional
leadership models, these new leaders are coaches, team facilitators,
change
agents and catalysts. Unfortunately, many teams and team leaders have
little
or no training in how to make teamwork effective, how to conduct team
building,
or how to observe and change group processes. The teamwork links page
provides
more information on these important skills.
The attitude of, "if
it exists,
it can be measured" permeates leadership as well as other topics in
management,
and there is no dearth of attempts to do so. Given the difficulty in
consistently
defining leadership, consider the following instruments reflecting only
a facet each of a very complex set of behaviors and situations.

A listserver is an
online discussion
group, often composed of professionals who have special interest in the
topic. You must follow directions very carefully for subscribing and
unsubscribing
to the list. You will receive daily updates of e-mail on these
discussions
and should check your mail daily.
