Webpage Grading Rubric
The design of webpages involves skills in graphic design, technical know-how, content knowledge, and writing fluency. You may use Netscape for constructing the page and are not required to use HTML editors. Note resources at the bottom of the page. The following criteria are used in evaluating webpages:
 
Category
Criteria
Font
  • use a standard  or embedded font
  • use between two and three font sizes
  • use italics and underlining if appropriate
Links
  • include at least 10 appropriate links
  • briefly annotate each in a way that helps the reader select among them
  • organize links in some logical manner (e.g., thematically, alphabetically, etc.)
  • links lead to the right page (don't make users browse, search or dig)
Layout
  • use margins, indentation, columns, bullets, etc., in a way that aids the reader in viewing information
  • use standard page width; don't use wide pages (requiring scrollbar) that make printing difficult
  • For several pages, use a menu, index, or frames to help people navigate
  • chunk the information; don't write one long page when it can be separated into screensize or slightly longer
Color
  • use complementary colors and those that are attractive but are not too difficult to read
  • use a background that enables reading text easily
  • avoid too many colors that are distracting
Mechanics 
  • check for grammar, punctuation, spelling, capitalization, sentence structure
Graphics
  • include at least one imported graphic (animated or clipart) in gif or jpg format
  • select graphics that load quickly (don't make people wait for downloads)
Content
  • clearly state the purpose of the page at the beginning
  • write with an audience in mind
  • include key words to help the reader scan
  • logically sequence the content
Authority
  • identify yourself as the author and include an e-mail link
  • date the page (when last updated)
Table
  • include at least one table either for tabular data or for formatting graphics and text
