"Imagining History" is a Minnesota Standards based project for K-12 teachers that focuses on inquiry and research, social studies, and writing. It is a partnership project between The College of St. Scholastica and local school districts. The project is funded by the Minnesota Higher Education Services Office. It is a five-day institute with three follow up sessions during the school year. Mornings will be spent working with Dr. Suzanne Yunis. Teachers will conduct research projects on family members. Participants will gain hands-on experience in historical inquiry as they explore the reasons for their family members' life choices. As they construct family stories based on their research, participants will experience the writing process. During afternoon breakout sessions, teachers will meet with grade-level team members to create research projects for use in their classroom. Teacher-created curriculum projects will integrate the inquiry process, language arts, technology, and social studies standards. |
