Can evaluation be used to improve programs
and services offered by nonprofit community agencies of any size?
Can it strengthen program effectiveness?
Can evaluation process and logic promote continuous improvement?
This new program is designed to help the participants answer these questions
and more by engaging them in an extended institute on program evaluation.
During the course of the institute participants will design and conduct
evaluations, use their findings for program improvement and accountability,
and begin to infuse evaluative thinking in their organizations. Upon
completion of the program they will:
-
Identify explicit objectives of the activities they plan to undertake;
-
build evaluation as an integral component of program design;
-
monitor their progress in achieving the proposed objectives;
-
distinguish between inputs and processes from outcomes;
-
conduct self assessment on a regular basis.
While this is not an exhaustive list of the expected outcomes, it provides
an indication of what we plan to achieve and how the program will build
the capacity of participants' organizations. Participants learn that
evaluation related knowledge, skills and attitudes serve a useful purpose
not only in assessing the impact of an existing program but in front-end
work related to designing new interventions with clearly articulated goals,
explicit assumptions, target audiences, essential activities, and needed
resources.
