Dr. Johnson came to The College of St. Scholastica in 2003. He completed his Ph.D. as an inorganic chemist at the University of Minnesota in 2001. Prior to coming to CSS he taught in lower Michigan and worked as a post-doctoral associate in polymer chemistry. Dr. J (as some students call him, despite the ridiculously easy pronunciation of his last name and his general lack of any skill related to basketball) teaches general chemistry, inorganic chemistry, instrumental chemistry, and chemistry for the health sciences. He conducts a research project for undergraduates that focuses on “crystal engineering” and the growth of porous coordination polymers that occlude interesting chemical species. He has only set off the fire alarm once.
